Did Terri Suffer Abuse?

Florida officials are reported to be asking for a 60-day stay so that they can investigate evidence regarding whether Terri has been the victim of abuse. Apparently, allegations exist that her husband abused her prior to her initial collapse. However, a suspected abuse perpetrator, as yet, reportedly has not been named. You can read more about this at Blogs For Terri.

My question: How would the nature of Terri's situation change or been viewed differently if her brain trauma were the result of an assault rather than an illness? One immediate consequence might be that, if she were the victim of spousal abuse, her husband likely would be removed as her guardian. However, this still might not settle the issue of her gastrostomy tube removal, if it has already been ordered. Of course, new guardians could change the course of events dramatically. In any event, a 60-day stay would mean, quite literally, 60 more days of life for Terri and, likely, a short-term reprieve for her family.

I hope the investigation is done, not just because of the 60 days but because, not being able to speak for herself, somebody might be able to explain how or why this woman's life changed so dramatically 15 years ago. I hope she is not under the guardianship of her alleged abuser because that would be analogous to being held captive for all these years.
